50|50 @ Sanchez Art Center “Interface”

This is the 16th Annual 50|50
Sept 6 – Oct 6, 2024

This is an annual fundraiser where the gallery invites 50 artists to each create a grid of 50 artworks. Each artwork is 6″ square. My Interface series suits the format nicely. Last year I showed my 6 Feet Apart series. The exhibition fills all three galleries at Sanchez Art Center and has a big local audience. It’s a very festive event and part of the fun is seeing the art disappear off the wall as it is purchased.

Juror: Andra Norris. Andra Norris Gallery exhibits contemporary works of art in downtown Burlingame, California, which is situated on the Bay Area’s Peninsula. The gallery mounts 10 exhibitions annually, featuring and selling paintings, photography, sculpture, and mixed media from established and mid-career international artists with Bay Area ties. Since opening its doors in 2012, this mid-Peninsula gem has sought to bridge artists, collectors, and enthusiasts, by providing exceptional visual arts experiences and exhibitions of artwork from around the globe, while placing a special emphasis on California’s own rich Bay Area

I’ll be there Friday, Sept 6: 5pm and
Sunday, Sept 29,
1-3pm (free)

Ticketed
opening weekend:

  • Friday, Sept 6 and Saturday, Sept 7

  • Also By appointment during the week

MORIYAMA @daidomoriyamaphotofoundation An epic exh MORIYAMA @daidomoriyamaphotofoundation
An epic exhibition spanning seven rooms, featuring more images than you can shake an old rangy dog at. This retrospective is a monument to a 50-year career defined by relentless experimentation and distinct creative phases.
The installation is wild, combining:
 * **Mural-sized reproductions** that dominate the space.
 * **Classic framed prints**
 * **Small-scale sticker prints** and detailed display cases.
 * **A massive slideshow**
It’s a powerful testament to a photographer who has never been afraid to evolve.
19 Victoire Thierrée “Okinawa” (discovery award wi 19 Victoire Thierrée “Okinawa” (discovery award winner) 👍🏽 fascinating project, exploring the history of foreigners in Okinawa. There is so much more to say about this show 👍🏽Victoire Thierrée discovered the island of Okinawa through the work of photographer Shōmei Tōmatsu (1930-2012) during her first visit to Japan in 2012. Tōmatsu was the first to document the American military presence on Okinawa, leading in 1969 to the publication, Okinawa, Okinawa, Okinawa, a title to which the series of photographs and the exhibition refer directly — like a cry.
In 2019, she explores this territory where thirty-two American military bases remain and 10,000 GIs are still present on the island. She produced a series of black and white photographs with a medium-format 6 x 9 (vertical) camera, focusing on the outskirts of the bases, where majestic nature seems to offer a form of resistance to this occupation.
