I will be presenting an evolution of my Motion Studies series that I call Motion Studies Dissected at this exciting fine art photography festival in Kyoto. It’s been a while since I had a solo show and this series is evolving so I am especially interested to bring this new work to Kyoto. I exhibited at the KG+ festival last year and had a wonderful experience. There are many shows, big and small, tucked into neighborhoods throughout the city.

4 Fundraisers

I am involved with a number of current and upcoming fundraising events. Please join me in supporting these wonderful organizations.

BAPC’s fundraiser for the African American Arts and Culture Complex

9/17-10/11: I will have 3 Interface images in this online fundraiser.
Spurred by the re-energized racial justice movement, BAPC has had numerous discussions about how they as a small arts organization can help dismantle systemic racism and promote racial equality. While they plan longer-term efforts, they’ve begun by backing a terrific arts organization in San Francisco that supports Black creatives, the African American Arts and Culture Complex (AAACC). BAPC started with a donation to the AAACC, and to raise additional funds they’re planning an online sale of BAPC members’ photographs at very affordable prices, with 100% of proceeds to be donated to AAACC. Tune in at BAPC.photo.

Coalition on Homelessness: Art Walk & Online Auction

I will have a couple of panoramas in this online auction.

  • My photos are on view at Artists’ Television Access
  • 992 Valencia St, San Francisco, CA 94110 (map)
  • From 10/1 to 10/8 this event will display auction items in multiple locations in SF’s Mission District, open for viewing the entire week. The interactive map with all locations can be found here. You will have the chance to see featured artwork in person, with all art available to bid on virtually.
  • updated direct link

Jimmy in Saigon Movie Fundraiser

I will have a few framed panoramic photographs in this online auction.
On 9/26 from 3-4:30pm PST, Jimmy in Saigon will hold its first-ever virtual fundraiser. The event will feature a conversation between Director Peter McDowell and Executive Producer Dan Savage, moderated by Hollywood producer Helen Estabrook,  a brand new clip from the rough cut of Jimmy in Saigon, as well as various musical performances. There will also be a silent auction of original artwork, gift bundles, online services, and more.

SF Camerawork Benefit Auction

9/10 – 9/25: I am on the Host Committee for See How Beautiful I Am, San Francisco Camerawork’s Benefit Auction 2020. Join me online on Thursday September 17 at 4 PM PST on Minnesota Street Project’s new online portal Adjacent for the Artists’ Showcase. Contact me and I will host an online group event to view the work.

Marking Time @ Harvey Milk Photo Center

I am excited to announce I will be participating in this 20th anniversary BAPC show curated by Meg Shiffler. I will be exhibiting images from my Rapid Express series.

  • Location: Harvey Milk Photography Center, 50 Scott Street, San Francisco CA 94117 (website)

In addition to the curated exhibit, a selection of photographs from BAPC founders and a nifty timeline of BAPC’s 20-year run will be on display. The timeline encompasses an important part of my own history as an artist over the last decade.  It will be printed in the exhibition catalog and also presented in a large format on the wall.

About the exhibit (by curator Meg Shiffler)

“What you have caught on film is captured forever…
it remembers everything, long after you have
forgotten everything.” – Aaron Siskind

“How do we mark time? We all do it. Humans compulsively invent new ways to drop pins in the flow of time so that as much of life as possible takes root in our personal memories and collective consciousness. On the occasion of Bay Area Photographers Collective’s 20th anniversary, Marking Time honors the founders and celebrates the vibrancy and diversity of the current membership through recent works that highlight our relationships to each other, the built and natural world, and photography itself.

Each photographer in this exhibition is a visual storyteller, and has marked time by taking a dynamic role in defining a moment, a perfect moment. Members’ works take viewers to a New Orleans cemetery, fields in California’s Central Valley, and the streets of Mexico City. We meet elders from India, transit riders in San Francisco, dancers at a recital, and gamers at play. There are panoramic images that slice a scene into fragments that physically reflect time and speed, and abstract works created with fast shutter speeds followed by slow, sculptural manipulations of the resulting prints.

It is truly remarkable that this artists’ collective has not only endured, but thrived for twenty years. It’s my honor to have worked with every member to curate this anniversary exhibition.”

Exhibiting artists (current members of BAPC):
Jason Andrescavage, Rose Borden, Tamara Danoyan, Anthony Delgado, Gene Dominique, Richard Dweck, Dan Fenstermacher, Linda Fitch, Steve Goldband, Ralf Hillebrand, Ken Hoffman, Ellen Konar, Philip Krayna, Tom Lavin, Dan Lythcott-Haims, Mitch Nelles, Ari Salomon, Angelika Schilli, Cindy Stokes, Rusty Weston, and Nick Winkworth
