Vertorama and iOS 6

I am all about the vertorama. way before iOS got into the game…. But I never used the term before. I have not tried the iOS 6 panorama mode yet but it seems to produce large images so I look forward to trying it out.

So here’s some new places to find my HDR Vertoramas

  • Flickr Vertoramas

Some notes from the article:

…Apples new software is also designed to capture vertical panoramas, sometimes called a “vertorama.” These are a bit tricker to capture, since its more natural to pan from left to right than it is to sweep from the ground up particularly if you keep going through a full 240 degrees, requiring a yoga-trained back bend.

and a good suggestion:

…when you browse panoramic images in your iOS photo library, they’re depicted as uniform squares, making them harder to select from.

Comments were fun to read. starting with “Fun, but I’m not sold on the usefulness of vertical panorama”.

Well, if you haven’t noticed, I am sold on it.

That post features a location I’ve been scouting so maybe I’ll knock that one out someday….

via Apples iOS 6 Camera app turns Panoramas on their head.

MORIYAMA @daidomoriyamaphotofoundation An epic exh MORIYAMA @daidomoriyamaphotofoundation
An epic exhibition spanning seven rooms, featuring more images than you can shake an old rangy dog at. This retrospective is a monument to a 50-year career defined by relentless experimentation and distinct creative phases.
The installation is wild, combining:
 * **Mural-sized reproductions** that dominate the space.
 * **Classic framed prints**
 * **Small-scale sticker prints** and detailed display cases.
 * **A massive slideshow**
It’s a powerful testament to a photographer who has never been afraid to evolve.

There is so much more to say about this show 👍🏽Victoire Thierrée discovered the island of Okinawa through the work of photographer Shōmei Tōmatsu (1930-2012) during her first visit to Japan in 2012. Tōmatsu was the first to document the American military presence on Okinawa, leading in 1969 to the publication, Okinawa, Okinawa, Okinawa, a title to which the series of photographs and the exhibition refer directly — like a cry.
In 2019, she explores this territory where thirty-two American military bases remain and 10,000 GIs are still present on the island. She produced a series of black and white photographs with a medium-format 6 x 9 (vertical) camera, focusing on the outskirts of the bases, where majestic nature seems to offer a form of resistance to this occupation.
